Samuel BENKIMOUN

(Associate Researcher, April 2026 – present)

Samuel Benkimoun is an Associate Professor (“Maître de Conférence”) in the Department of Geography at Université de Rouen-Normandie (France) and a member of the joint research unit IDEES. He completed his doctoral research at the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, focusing on Delhi’s urban system, with particular attention to multidimensional networks linking population flows, disease circulation, and the production of information.

He also contributed to the CHALLINEQ project at CSH as a research assistant, where he helped structuring a database on spatial inequalities derived from 5,000 household surveys conducted across Delhi. This dataset is now used to investigate issues related to housing and access to neighborhood amenities such as green spaces.

His current research explores themes such as spatial inequalities, mobility, urban environments, and health. One example involves the use of novel movement datasets derived from digital traces to better understand urban systems and mobility patterns in India. He is also engaged in ongoing work on urban heat island measurement, using crowdsourced temperature sensor data combined with spatial interpolation methods.
