Research Assistant Position

The Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) invites applications for a Research assistant position on a full-time basis, starting on 1st December 2018, for a period of six months.

The CSH is a French-funded reputed multidisciplinary research center in New Delhi (http://www.csh-delhi.com). The center hosts eight full-time researchers (both from Europe and India), and several doctoral students and short-term visitors. It is engaged in high-level research in all disciplines of the social sciences, with particular strength in demography and urban studies, economics, geography, international relations, political science and sociology.


The successful candidate will work under the project “Prosopography of Muslim Elites” led by Julien Levesque and Laurence Gautier. The candidate will help the project coordinators build a prosopographical database of Muslim elites in India. This involves collecting biographical information about specific figures through bibliographical and archival research, and by conducting interviews. The information collected is then fed into a database software before analysis.


Candidates should:

  • at a minimum hold a Master’s degree in a social science discipline (preferably in political science, sociology, history, or anthropology);
  • be familiar with research methods; a previous research experience is a plus;
  • be comfortable using common office software; knowledge of database software is a plus;
  • be fluent in English with solid written and oral skills;
  • have command of oral and written (including handwritten) Urdu and Hindi: the candidate should be able to efficiently read sources in Urdu and Hindi, and to conduct interviews in Urdu/Hindi.
  • Be responsive, flexible and able to integrate in a French and international environment.



The monthly salary is 50,000 INR.
