About

Clémence Jullien is a Phd student in sociology (ethnologie) from Université Paris Ouest Naterre who has joined the Centre de sciences humaines in October 2011.

Her thesis relies on reproductive health care in Rajasthan.

In North India many national government schemes and a growing number of local and international NGOs are developing reproductive health care programs in order to guarantee access of care across the population, to reduce the maternal and child mortality rate and to promote contraception. The topic of her PhD relates to the sociological understanding of the care given to those young mothers. This implies taking into account daai (traditional midwives), NGO programs and government hospitals in Jaipur.
