Globalisation and Migration

Head: Dr. Tristan Bruslé

Researches done in this department focus on the impact of globalisation on South Asia and India. International labor migrations are an obvious consequence and the sign of South Asia’s insertion in the globalisation. These migrations are extremely important for regions such as Nepal, Kerala or the Sylhet region in Bangladesh who depend increasingly upon the remittances sent by their migrant workers. Researches conducted at CSH on this issue examine both the determinants and the consequences of these migrations at the regions of origin. These researches favor a qualitative perspective that are based on detailed questionnaire surveys and interviews of individual Nepalese migrants who have decided to work in India, the Persian Gulf or Malaysia.
