BIOGRAPHY:

Syamantak Chattopadhyay is a research scholar in economics specialising in labour economics, development economics, and econometrics. The area of his doctoral research is “Female Labour Force Participation in India”. He is presently pursuing his Ph.D. at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta (CSSSC). Prior to that, he was at the University of Kalyani and the Institute of Development Studies Kolkata (IDSK), where he did his M.Sc. in Economics and M.Phil in Development Studies (with a specialisation in Economics), respectively.

He has been working as a guest lecturer in economics at various colleges in Kolkata, West Bengal, since 2017. Other than economics, he has also been part of several other research projects dealing with an interdisciplinary approach. Salt Lake Archives (2021–22) and Mapping the Ephemerality (2022) were two such projects, conducted by IDSK and the University of California, Santa Barbara, respectively, where he worked. Currently, he is working under Dr. Pradeep Kumar Choudhury and Prof. Odile Henry as a quantitative research assistant in a project “Women and science, gender Inequalities in higher education and scientific careers: Examples of Engineering and Medicine in India” managed by the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH).
